Celebrate Your #RightToLibrary
Banned Books Week October 4–10, 2026
The San José Public Library invites you to celebrate your Freedom to Read during Banned Books Week, a national event that recognizes the importance of access to information and diverse viewpoints. Join us as we reaffirm our commitment to intellectual freedom and equitable access for all - core values of our ongoing #RightToLibrary initiative.
To wrap up the week, SJPL and the San Jose Public Library Foundation are teaming up with Clandestine Brewery to host Banned Books & Brews, on Saturday, October 10 from 12 - 4 p.m. This special event will feature storytime, brewery tours, a Banned Book Fair, and other fun activities!
About Banned Books Week
Banned Books Week began in 1982 to raise awareness about books being challenged or removed from libraries and schools. Many of these books remain available today thanks to the support of librarians, teachers, and readers like you.
