The library's subscription to Freegal's downloadable music service will end on Tuesday, May 1 due to budgetary considerations. Please be sure to download tracks every week until then! We apologize for any inconvenience.

Freegal is a fantastic service provided by the SJPL. Thank you very much for this service. I am a strong advocate of bringing the service back in the future if the financial issues could be resolved.

Glad to see the service was extended another week.
Sorry to see it discontinue. Freegal has enriched my life. Exposing me genres of music I ordinarily would not even listen to. It changed the way I feel about different forms of music. Too bad it can't continue. Maybe at a more limited usage and reduced cost to the city.

Pleased to select the provider was extended yet another week. Apologies to see this stop. Freegal offers enriched living. Disclosing me genres connected with music I typically would not also pay attention to. This changed the way in which I believe about various forms of songs. Bad it aren't continue. Perhaps at a a lot more limited usage and also reduced cost for the town.
SJPL : Thanks for offering Freegal and extending it the extra two weeks. It was awesome while it lasted and really gave me a musically diverse music collection that I will cherish. My hope is that it returns as a feature in future. It is one of the coolest perks I have experienced within a library system and made it fun to check out your site every week, not only to get music, but to check out the library offerings. Thank you again.

What great news to see another two weeks added to the end date. Still a bummer to see it go, but totally understand that money ain't free. My bills don't pay themselves either for some reason. :) Thanks for trying this service out in the first place. It looks like the people that knew about it and liked it really liked it.
I read how some libraries considered this controversial because they were fixed into the "must lend" mindset, but for me Overdrive is just too much hassle to deal with - especially if I want to be fair and legal about it. I understand the technology and why the DRM is needed, but I just don't have time to deal with all those hoops that it looked like the console was going to take. Some weeks, I don't even get to my new Freegal music and catch up in the next week. Anyways, thank you again for the Freegal experiment. Like the other commenters, I really enjoyed it while it lasted.
I have scrolled through numerous library postings online, and I haven't seen as much feedback as I have with Freegal. For those that know about it, it is a favorite. Please bring it back. Thanks.

How disappointing! Please bring this service back. It allows users to enjoy songs they probably wouldn't buy on CDs. I just recently became aware of the service because it was "buried" so deeply within the library's web pages and now you're discontinuing it, proving once again that nothing good lasts, I guess.

Any chance of having a meeting at the library sometime after Freegal is over to share users' experiences?
I've really enjoyed the music I've downloaded from Freegal. I've expanded my knowledge and familiarity with kinds of music from all over the world and music from the U.S. I knew absolutely nothing about before this service.
I'd sure love to hear what other patrons have to say about music they've heard and learned about.
I understand that its cost is likely prohibitive.
It was a great ride!

This sounds like a fun idea, but considering that the library itself has 19 locations, it might be hard to organize. Maybe you have some favorites that you can share here? One of the best downloads that I did was The Electric Joe Satriani: An Anthology. I knew the name and knew of a song or two, but of the 30 songs in the album, I can't think of one that I don't like. I've never owned any of his music, but very glad I decided to try out this album. Two other interesting things I found were the Dance Vault Remix albums that had remixes of pop songs and a "Dance Mix USA" download that's over an hour of continuous music. Not quite my type of stuff, but it keeps moving.

I would rather have that than no Freegal at all.
:(
I hope this services comes back. It helped me discover music that I would have never otherwise bought.

I really enjoyed using Freegal and looked forward to exploring new music with it with a feeling (albeit completely inaccurate) of minimal financial risk. This was a great program that I hope will come back in the future. The updates they're making to the site are also making it even better. I even evangelized this excellent service to other patrons who also became excited about it.

I got to download all sorts of cool stuff I wouldn't have normally listened to. It has given me a freedom to explore parts of music I wouldn't have normally checked out. It is unfortunate that we will have to see it go away. It was a fantastic service. Hope it returns soon.
I agree, it's a great way to explore new genres and artists. The price is however rather prohibitive, and we do have some music available through OverDrive; please give that a try!
