Meet the Kindle, Sony Reader, iPad, and other devices for e-Reading at our eReader Petting Zoo. Here's the schedule for November:
So some Safari Books Online titles are currently ‘broken’ – they only display the first page, no matter what sections of the book are selected. I’m in touch with the vendors to resolve the issue, but in the meantime, please try to use the “HTML View” option on the top right of the screen; that may work for some titles. Also, please make sure that you have the latest Flash installed, and that it is enabled. I'll post another message when this is resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Meet the Kindle, Sony Reader, iPad, and other devices for e-Reading at an eReader Petting Zoo at the Almaden Branch Library on Saturday, November 19 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm! We’ll talk about all the different e-collections at the library, and show you how easy it is to get free library eBooks on your device! You’re welcome to bring your own smartphone or your eReader device to follow along. This drop-in demonstration will last for 2 hours.
Did you know that all the titles in our new OneClickdigital collection of eAudioBooks are always available, with unlimited access? No more waiting in line for that popular audio book! And, all the titles will play on an iPod. New titles are added fairly regularly so check often. You do need to set up an account the first time you use the service.
The good news is that now Kindle owners can check out and download many of their favorite titles from Overdrive Digital Library on the SJPL Home Page. However--and here's the bad news--not all titles available for the Kindle have been made available for the library to purchase! And, this holds true for all ePub eBooks--
Also, some publishers do not allow their books to become eBooks. Other publishers put restrictions on how many times an eBook can be checked out before the book has to be "purchased" again. However, titles often become available at a later time. So we do try to get the authors and titles you ask for, and we will continue to do so!
There are a number of sites that offer eAudioBooks for free.
Books Should Be Free and LibriVox provides free audiobooks from the public domain.
eJunto was created to bring historical and philosphical audiobooks to the public domain.
FreeClassicAudioBooks.com has a number of classics titles, and the site also takes requests.
What are your favorite resources for free eAudioBooks? Please share them in the comments!
