The San José Public Library is inviting readers of all ages to have fun this summer by reading, learning and growing their knowledge in our annual Summer Learning program. Grab a head start and pre-register for the program beginning May 1. Starting June 1, participate by logging books or time spent reading.

Free giveaways for all participants while supplies last.
All participants 0–18 years old will receive one (1) free book of their choice when they register for Summer Learning AND when they complete their 8-book or 8-hour reading goal.
Bonus Participation Activity Prize for Youth Ages 0-18:
Earn a cool, colorful fidget snake cube for your playful side! Chart your reading progress on a cool, creative map. Available June 1 – July 31, at any SJPL branch! Contact your nearest SJPL location for more details.

You will need to go to https://sjpl.beanstack.org/users/password/new and type in the email you believe you used for the account, then click “reset password”. If you cannot remember the email you used for your Beanstack account, please contact library staff for assistance.

Yes ... to claim a participation prize and be eligible for special prize drawings, as well as the grand prize drawing, you must log ALL reading on your Beanstack account via the web site or app. Paper logs are available, but only as a fun option. Any reading recorded via the paper log also should be recorded via your Beanstack account.

No, but a SJPL card is always encouraged to enjoy our wide collection of materials. To participate in Summer Learning, you only need a Beanstack account.

Yes! All Bay Area residents can participate in our Summer Learning program. All participation giveaways and grand prizes must be claimed in person.

Starting June 1st, all youth ages 0-18 can pick up one free book prize upon sign up AND another free book prize upon (8 hour/8 book) program completion. Adults can claim fun, free giveaway prizes for sign up and completion too. Participation giveaway prizes can be claimed at any SJPL location during open hours.

Summer Learning is the cornerstone of the Library's summer initiatives.
- Our Mission Statement is Learning For All: SJPL is a learning institution. From our Storytimes, coding classes to our Homework Clubs and ESL classes, SJPL lives up to its mission statement to "enrich lives by fostering lifelong learning and by ensuring that every member of the community has access to a vast array of ideas and information."
- Reading is Learning: We believe that reading is learning, especially for youth. For younger children, reading fosters learning about the world around them, and prepares them for the challenges of entering school. For older children and teens, reading helps keep their minds active and engaged, reinforcing and facilitating learning.
