Meet Best-Selling Author: Khaled Hosseini

Enjoy a special evening with Khaled Hosseini, best-selling author of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns.

The event is free and open to the public.

Light snacks and refreshments will be available.

 

Join us as author Khaled Hosseini talks about his writing inspirations, life experiences and upcoming projects.  Audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions and meet the best-selling author.  The event will be followed by a book signing.

 

About the author:

Khaled Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, moved to San José as a teenager, earned a bachelor's degree in Biology at Santa Clara University, and a Medical Degree at the University of California-San Diego School of Medicine. 

 

While in medical practice, Hosseini began writing his first novel, The Kite Runner.  In 2003, The Kite Runner, was published and became an international bestseller, published in 70 countries.  In 2006, he was named a goodwill envoy to UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency.  His second novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns was published in May 2007.  Khaled works to provide humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan through The Khaled Hosseini Foundation.

Nationally recognized librarian and educator Doris Dillon inspired Almaden students to love reading, learning, and life in a career spanning over thirty years.  Twice named Teacher of the Year by local schools, Mrs. Dillon was known for bringing literary characters to life.  Although Doris Dillon died of ALS in 2001, the Children’s Library of the Almaden Branch, named in her honor, will carry on her legacy, introducing children to the joys of reading for many years to come.



You Are Invited to the Almaden Library/Communty Center's 5th Anniversary


You are warmly invited to the 5th anniversary celebration at the Almaden Branch Library and Community Center on Saturday, May 21, at 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  This will be a fun-filled event for all ages with activities, crafts, food and stories. Conroy the Cougar (the Library's official mascot) will also be there to greet and entertain the children. Following our anniversary celebrations, we will be hosting the city-wide Teen Talent Show - 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the large community room. We have some really talented teens in our city and we know you'll enjoy hearing them! Hope to see you there ... it will be a fun and memorable day.
