Timothy James - Magician Extraordinaire


Book Cover: Amazing Magic TricksEveryone is invited to the Children's Room at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library on Saturday, June 8 at 3:00PM to see the amazing, mesmerizing Timothy James, magician extraordinaire. He will dazzle you with his fantastic tricks and I can guarantee that you will constantly be asking yourself: "How did he do that?" Mr. James also has a way of incorporating humor into his magic show to the delight of children and adults alike. You won't want to miss this show! After the show children will want to keep the magic going; so check out the many magic books available at the King Library and the other branch libraries.

 

This show is part of our Summer Reading Celebration and is sponsored by the Friends of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library.



Celebrate Astronomy Day at King Library on April 20, 2013!

Astronomy Day is an annual event which is meant to provide a means of interaction between the public and various astronomy enthusiasts, groups and professionals. There will be many special programs and celebrations throughout California and your very own Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library will be holding 2 special events on that day:

 

The San Jose Astronomical Association will be on the "Science Lawn" located outside the San Jose State University entrance to King Library from 11:00AM - 3:00PM.  They will have special solar telescopes where you can safely view the Sun and witness sunspots and solar plasma eruptions. You don't want to miss this chance to view Earth's sun in a safe way and also receive lots of great information.

 

NASA GIRLS (not just for girls)will be in the Exploration Room located above the Children's Room of the King Library at 3:00 PM. They will also be talking about our closest star, the Sun! Join us to find out how NASA is helping us learn about our Sun,  what it can teach us about other stars, and the many ways the Sun affects our life on Earth. Children will also engage in a Sun related craft.

 

It is going to be a truly Science Day at the library and the library has many books about the Sun, Earth and the other planets that you can borrow and read about at home. So check some out!



José Luis Orozco - Special Presentation ~ Presentación especial - Biblioteca Latinoamericana


José Luis OrozcoCome join us for a special presentation of José Luis Orozco on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at 6:30pm at the Biblioteca Latinoamericana Branch, 921 S. First St., San José, CA 95110.

 

For many years, Mr. José Luis Orozco has delighted children and their families in different venues across the country with his musical performances.  As an award winning children’s book author and bilingual educator, Mr. Orozco brings a unique musical performance of songs and music based on the rich heritage of Latino traditions and culture in a bilingual atmosphere (English & Spanish) for everyone to enjoy.

 

We especially invite families with young children to this wonderful performance.

Then join us on Friday, March 1 at 4:00PM in the Children's Room of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library as we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss! It will be a fun filled afternoon! Besides games there will be crafts, stories and prizes for all. It will definitely be a Seussical birthday party! Join the fun and if you would like to get in the mood just check out some Dr. Seuss books before the big day. This is one birthday party you don't want to miss!

Children's Author, Oliver Chin, Visits King Library!

The Children's Room of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library is honored to host  children's author Oliver Chin on Friday, February 15 at 4:00PM as he shares with us a new book in his Chinese Zodiac series: The Year of the Snake . Suzie is a young snake who while seeking adventure meets Lily, a young girl, and other animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Of course, people have negative ideas about snakes and Suzie tries to show them her other characteristics. Children will enjoy meeting Suzie and will be delighted as Suzie tries to discover her unique personality and what a treat to hear a book read by the author himself! Mr. Chin's presentation will be a multi media one and lots of fun for all. Don't miss this special event.

 

There will also be a craft for children as they make their very own snakes to take home! Of course, if you want to learn about real snakes and other reptiles the library has many books you can borrow and take home.

 



Xtreme Science Magic Show at King Library


Take two parts science, add one part magic, throw in a large dose of audience participation and you've got Xtreme Science Magic, a show being offered in the Children's Room of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library on Saturday, January 26 at 3:00PM. Children and parents alike will enjoy this educational and entertaining show. We guarantee that children will become curious about science and experiments and the San Jose Public Library has many science experiment books that they can browse and borrow. Here's a little taste of what you can expect at Don O'Brien's Xtreme Science Magic show. Don't miss it!
