Andy C. The Gnome


Andy C and a LibraryAndy C. The Gnome is on the road visiting several Carnegie Libraries in California, including the historic East San Jose Carnegie Branch Library.    Everyone is welcome to come to our special event, on Saturday February 9, 2013 at 2:00 PM.   Festivities will include a story time, a craft, and a chance to meet Andy C. and Curious Conroy Cougar

Friday Funs for a New Year @ King Library


Book Cover: Happy New Year Everywhere!A New Year means new Friday Fun activities in the Children's Room at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library. Each Friday at 4:00 PM we will have a different activity: crafts, animals, stories, making play dough and more! Let's see what January, 2013 has to offer:

 

Friday, January 4: All About Penguins! Learn about penguins, hear some stories and then make a penguin craft using a paper cup, felt and googly eyes. What fun! Of course the library has many books about penguins that you can borrow, take home and read.

 

Friday, January 11: Goldilocks and the Three What? There are so many versions of this fairy tale that it could be three martians, three hares, three osos or maybe just Goldilocks and one bear! Enjoy some stories about that adventurous young lady Goldilocks and then make a special craft! Here are some titles you might want to try: Rubia and the Three Osos, Goldie and the Three Bears, The Three Snow Bears, Leola and the Honeybears, Beware of the Bears and yes Golilocks and Just One Bear. Of course there are many more versions!

 

Friday, January 18: Celebrate Dr. King's Birthday: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. Join us as we celebrate his life, his dreams and then create a beautiful "Freedom Bell." We have many books about Dr. King that you can borrow.

 

Friday, January 25: Family Movie Fun: Join us for a fun family movie and enjoy some refreshments too. It's a great way to start off the weekend and don't forget that San Jose Public Library has many DVDs  for children that you can borrow for free and keep for three weeks. Now that's a bargain!!



Jump for Joy Music at the Edenvale Branch Library


Does your child love music?  You are welcome to bring your child to the Edenvale Branch Library on Tuesday September 18 at 11:30 AM to enjoy Jump for Joy Music, a duet with Wiley Rankin and Miss Debbie.    The engaging and energetic music program will be a lot of fun! Wiley will excite the audience with his songs.  Children will even learn a bit about music education.  For more information about Jump For Joy Music, please visit their website.

Rainbow Fun!


Rainbow Fun!  In this special storytime , children will learn about Rainbows, Colors and Light through songs, stories, games, science experiments and crafts. Each child will also make their own rainbow! Join us for this educational and fun program in the Exploration Room at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library on Thursday March 29, from 4:00PM-5:00PM. The library has many books on rainbows and colors such as Rainbow of My Own, White Rabbit's Color Book and Colors. Here's a sneak preview of a music video by Mr. Ray that is part of this great program:



Dr. Seuss Birthday Party @ the Edenvale Branch Library


On Thursday March 1, children and their families came to the Edenvale Branch Library to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday.   One of the Edenvale Branch Library TeensReach members read Ten Apples up on Top, then Councilmember Ash Kalra read Cat in the Hat.   After a fun reading of those two books, teens showed children how to make “Thing One” and “Thing Two” hats.   Children, teens and families enjoyed delicious cake, apple juice and other delicious refreshments, provided by the Friends of the Edenvale Branch Library.   



Super Saturday Programs at King Library


King Library university side exterior. The Children's Room of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library offers super Saturday programs each Saturday at 3:00PM. March offers craft programs, a puppet show, a science magic show and more. Check out our March line up below.

 

 

  • March 3: Game Day: Do you like to play games? Join us for some board game fun.
  • March 10: Taiwanese Glove Puppet Show: The San Jose-Tainan Sister City Organization will be presenting "The Twelve Animals of the Zodiac." Join us for this unique puppet show featuring hand glove puppets.
  • March 17: Xtreme Science Magic Show with Don O'Brien: This show is science, magic and bubble fun all in one. Join us for a fun filled interactive program for the whole family.
  • March 24: ABC to Drawing: Did you know you could draw pictures using the letters of the alphabet and numbers? Our volunteer, Vidhi, will show us how it's done; children will be so proud of their masterpieces.   • March 31: Snow Day with the Children's Discovery Museum: We'll be having a snow day in the Exploration Room. Children will be using microscopes to compare real snow to instant snow. Because of the hands-on nature of the program seating is limited; so come early and get a spot.
