How to Participate ...

1. Starting June 1, 2013, sign up at your local library and receive an Activity Grid or sign up online and print your own Activity Grid.
    
2. Only activities completed between June 1 - July 31 are eligible. 
    
3. Complete any five squares in a row (vertical, horizontal, or diagonal) on the Activity Grid to enter our biweekly prize drawing. Once your grid is complete, every additional book read earns another entry into the biweekly drawing.
    
4. List the specific book titles you've read, or activities you've done in the What I Did section.

Please Note: Those who are 12 years old can choose to participate in the teen program or children's program

Book Trailer Contest

Those who provide a video review will be automatically entered into the Book Trailer Contest.  Our judges will select the best video review and the winner will receive a iPad Mini!

Rock the Library – Enter San José Public Library’s "Battle of the Bands"

Celebrate Teen Tech Week 2013, “Check In @ your library”

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Are you a teen (age 12 – 18) that performs with your own band? Ready to move out of the garage and onto a wider stage? Enter San José Public Library’s online "Battle of the Bands," in celebration of Teen Tech Week 2013 (March 10-16).

To enter, have your parents or a friend grab that camcorder and record your best performance. Post the video online (e.g., Facebook, YouTube, etc.). Submit your entry by sending an email to sjplbattleofthebands@gmail.com that contains a link to your music online. Be sure to include the following information:

• The name of the band/performer, and names and ages of all members
• A brief description of the band, to be used on the contest webpage
• A name, phone number, and email where the contestants can be reached

Submit entry by February 9. Please note: No personal information will be posted online.

This contest is open to all musical genres, but no obscene or offensive lyrics are allowed. Inappropriate lyrics or behavior will result in disqualification. Participants may enter together as a group, or as a solo performer. Solo performers must play an accompanying instrument. No karaoke permitted.

What’s next? Your entry will be posted on the official "SJPL Battle of the Bands" site sjpl.org/battleofthebands. Music lovers will be invited to visit the page between February 25 and March 16 to listen in and cast their votes for their favorites. The top five finalists who receive the most online votes will be announced March 19.

The top five finalists from the online voting contest must be available to play at the live final concert on Saturday, March 23 at the new Bascom Library and Community Center (1000 S. Bascom Ave, San Jose). Each band will have up to 20 minutes to perform their set.  A panel of judges will evaluate the performers on their musical ability and stage presence. The decision of the judges will be final.

First, second and third place winners will receive the following prizes:

• First Place: $250
• Second Place: $150
• Third Place: $50

About Teen Tech Week:

Teen Tech Week is a national initiative sponsored by the Young Adult Library Services Association and is aimed at teens, their parents, educators and other concerned adults. The purpose of the initiative is to ensure that teens are competent and ethical users of technologies, especially those that are offered through libraries such as DVDs, databases, audio books, and videogames. Teen Tech Week encourages teens to use libraries' non-print resources for education and recreation, and to recognize that librarians are qualified, trusted professionals in the field of information technology.

How to enter:

1. Submit a review of the book "Breaking Dawn" by Stephenie Meyer using our new library catalog. (Please note: Your review must include your name.)

2. Send an email to marcom.sjpl@gmail.com to let us know your review was posted on our library catalog and include your name in the email. 

The first five people to post their review of the book Breaking Dawn will receive advance screening passes for you and a guest.  The first ten people to post their review of the book will receive a movie pack. 

Movie passes do not guarantee admission.  Seating is first-come, first served. Please arrive early. 

The advance screening will be held tomorrow, Nov. 14, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at AMC Eastridge 15.

Movie passes must be picked no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14 in the Administration office located on the 4th floor of the King Library.

Love taking photographs?

Submit your original photo, with a theme of night time, and you could win a prize!

There are two contests at Edenvale Branch Library: one for Teens (ages 12-17), and one for Adults.

Both contests have the same rules and prize for the winner: $50 dollar gift certificate to San José Camera and Video.

The contest deadline has been extended to Thursday July 19th, 2012 at 4:00 PM.

You must come in to the library to get an entry form.

This program is part of the Summer Reading Celebration 2012.

The Santa Teresa Branch Library has teamed up with Aram Sei to present a Talent Hunt extravaganza for children and teens. The Talent Hunt is scheduled to take place on April 28 in the Santa Teresa Branch Library Community Room. There will be several contests and prizes to be won. All contestants will receive a participant certificate.

Children’s events are scheduled from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM

Dance Workshop for children and teens from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM

Teen’s events are scheduled from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM.
