    My Nano and Me

Photo of iPod NanoI find I’m enjoying my iPod Nano more than ever these days. It’s nothing fancy, just an earlier-generation model with a mere 8 GB capacity (although it is a rather groovy green). It’s my faithful companion for walks in the neighborhood and workouts at the gym, and best of all? Almost everything I’ve been listening to lately was downloaded for free, courtesy of San José Public Library.

Yesterday I acquired three new tunes via Freegal, a source for free and legal music downloads for anyone with a San José library card. There are hundreds of thousands of songs to choose from, in genres including pop, rock, country, jazz, hip-hop, and many others. After careful deliberation, I opted for songs from the Indigo Girls, Natasha Bedingfield, and Miranda Lambert. I can’t wait till next week when my counter resets and I can get three more tunes. It’s super easy – there is no software to download, and my songs were automatically imported into my iTunes.

Even more than music, I’m loving listening to audio books right now. I’ve used both OverDrive and MyiLibrary to download titles to my computer and then transfer them to my iPod. Recently, to prepare for Book Adventures at Willow Glen Library, I listened to the popular children’s book The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. Before that, I enjoyed Catching Fire, part of The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins, and The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

If you’re new to downloading music and audio books from the library, you’ll find everything you need to know on our Downloads page. Happy listening!
