The San Jose Public Library's Summer Reading Celebration kicks off today and children and teens can sign up for their respective programs at any branch. But summer reading is not just a kids' activity! Adults can sign up too. If you have children perhaps you'd like to sign up for summer reading along with them and make the experience a family affair, but no kids are required for adult summer reading fun!
Partipants in the adult summer reading program can entered biweekly drawings for the following prizes:
If you register at your local branch, staff will give you an activity card, or if you sign up online you can print your own activity card. Complete five activities in a row (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) and return it to the library in time to be entered into each biweekly drawing. Most importantly, have a great time reading!
San Jose Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Celebration (SRC) promises to be more fun than ever this year, with the introduction of a Bingo-style activity grid in place of the traditional reading log. As always, kids will have lots of incentives to read books of their choice - a proven way to help prevent learning loss during the summer months. The activity grid will additionally reward participants for other literacy related activities, such as attending library programs.
Special SRC programs will be held at all library branches throughout the summer. For children, these include many activities related to this year’s "Dig Into Reading" theme - for instance, we’ll be planting seeds, creating fossil art, making hedgehogs, and decorating pet rocks! Libraries will also offer a variety of free performances for families including the Fratello Marionettes, magician Dan Chan, singer/songwriter Peter Apel, and many others. We’ll also have our annual Graphic Novel Contest, Teen Book Trailer Contest, and special SRC Kick-Off Event on June 2. Check out sjpl.org/summer for more information about Summer Reading events and activities.
Separate activity grids are available for pre-readers, readers, teens, and adults, giving everyone a chance to participate and win prizes. Prizes include toys for the kids, free books, entries in drawings for gift cards, and even an iPad Mini! Beginning June 1, you can pick up an activity grid at any SJPL location or print one online. Get ready to play!

Each location will have drawings for:
