Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

Honoring Asian & Pacific Cultures

Join us this May as we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month!

It's a time to honor the vibrant cultures and significant contributions of individuals with roots across the vast Asian continent and the Pacific Islands. This commemoration began as a week-long event following Congressional resolutions in the late 1970s and was officially expanded and designated as a month-long observance annually in 1992. The month of May was chosen specifically to recognize the arrival date of the first Japanese immigrants (May 7, 1843) and the anniversary of the transcontinental railroad's completion (May 10, 1869), which heavily involved Chinese immigrant labor.
