Save Energy and Money with the DIY Home Energy Savings Kit
This no-cost kit contains devices that will help you easily reduce energy and water use, saving you money on your utility bills. Users can expect to save, on average, $200 per year after installing the DIY Toolkit's equipment.

Devices in the Toolkit to Help You:
Devices that enable the measurement of energy and water use are to be returned to the library in the toolkit box, and include:
- Kill-A-Watt® Meter for measuring the energy use of appliances and equipment
- Thermal detector that checks for heat loss through windows, vents and doors
- Special thermometer that helps set refrigerators and freezers to appropriate temperatures
- Water flow rate bag that measures the true rate of flow from faucets and showerheads
The accompanying User Guide, opens a new window shows you step-by-step how to measure the energy use and water use of appliances and equipment in your home, and then shows you to reduce that energy and water use. Anyone with a valid library card can borrow a toolkit for up to two weeks from all branches of the San José Public Library, opens a new window. During checkout, you will need to sign a waiver agreeing to pay a replacement fee for any missing items (other than the ones above you are allowed to keep).
