History of Batman
September 21st celebrates one of the most iconic heroes in the comic world: the infamous dark knight, the illusive caped crusader, and the world’s best detective, Batman. Batman first appeared in 1939 in Detective Comics #27, quickly becoming a fan favorite and earning his own comic in 1940. For years Bob Kane was recognized as the sole creator of Batman, until 2015 when Bill Finger received official recognition for his contributions on making the character who he is today.
So, who exactly is Batman? By day he is Bruce Wayne, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist, but by night he watches over Gotham City from the shadows. Batman is a masked vigilante who was driven to fight crime after witnessing the death of his parents. While Batman has been known to fight solo, he has also had many team ups, fighting alongside his iconic partner Robin, founding the outsiders, and being an integral member of the Justice League.
