With the weather turning colder and the Winter months ahead, now is the perfect time to incorporate the concept of Hygge into your home and your life. Hygge is a concept of bringing comfort into your life, with simple things like a homecooked meal, enjoying the quiet moments, reading a novel while enjoying a hot cup of coffee/tea/cocoa. It can be the experience of snuggling into a warm blanket on the couch, while watching the rain or snow fall outside. It can also be in moments of family interaction or partner interaction: enjoying a meal together, making crafts together, playing a board game. Because the winter months of January and February can often seem long and arduous, I tend towards adding more Hygge into my life, and begin my creative projects. It's also a great time to learn a new skill or hobby....see my previous week's blog about knitting, if you're interested in that as a hobby.
For more information about Hygge, check out these books from the San Jose Public Library. You'll be surprised at how small changes can lead to big outcomes.
Hygge Booklist:
This is also the perfect time to indulge in reading some Cozy Mysteries. Cozy Mysteries are a genre of novel that often take place in small towns. The main character is typically a female amateur detective, who solves the mystery without there being violence. Agatha Christie's Miss Marple mysteries are a perfect example of this, as well as the classic tv show "Murder, She Wrote". And sometimes, the cozy mystery books will include recipes for cookies or hot drinks....all perfect to cuddle up with on a cold, rainy day!
