Digital Inclusion Month: Tech Upgrades at the Library

New Computers & Better Wi-Fi

During this Digital Inclusion Month, we’re thrilled to announce some big tech upgrades happening at the San José Public Library: new computers and better Wi-Fi. These improvements are all about making sure everyone in our community can connect, learn, and thrive in the digital world.

New Computers

We've already started replacing our old computers, and by June 30, 2025, we'll have swapped out our older computers with up to 450 new, faster ones at our libraries. This upgrade means better performance for:

  • Building your digital skills
  • Accessing information
  • Connecting with others

Better Wi-Fi

We’ve also improved our free Wi-Fi (wifi) at our library locations! Now you can enjoy a faster, smoother experience for streaming, video calls, and online learning.

Plus, you will have a smoother connection when you visit our select library locations that offer outdoor Wi-Fi. You can now move between the library's indoor and outdoor spaces WITHOUT having to switch between networks—our Wi-Fi now works seamlessly.

Why These Changes Matter

Digital inclusion means everyone can use technology to learn, connect, and succeed. With these tech upgrades, we’re making sure our community has the tools needed to fully participate in the digital world:

  • New, faster computers will make digital skill programs and other online tasks easier.
  • Better Wi-Fi will help keep you connected, whether you are inside our library locations or outside the library.
