Marking the ratification of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, Independence Day commemorates the founding of the United State of America. From barbecues to fireworks to public events and activities, there's lots to enjoy on this fun summer holiday!
Independence Day Events
Here in San José, on Thursday, July 4th, 2024 the Rose, White & Blue Parade will take place in the Alameda from 9:45 AM to 12:00 PM, with the accompanying festival held from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Later that day, the 9th annual 4th of July Fireworks Festival will be held at Almaden Lake Park. The festival will begin at 3:00 PM, and fireworks at approximately 9:15 PM.
Also, starting at 5:00 PM PST, PBS will be showing A Capitol Fourth, featuring a musical concert and fireworks in Washington D.C. The event will also be livestreamed on the PBS website.
The City of San José, including all SJPL locations, will be closed on July 4 in observance of the holiday.
A Note on Fireworks
Remember that all types of fireworks, even those labeled "safe and sane," are illegal in San José.

Library Events and Resources
On Friday, June 28 from 4:00-5:00 PM, Tully Branch Library will be offering a July 4th Paper Plate Wreath craft activity for ages 6 and up! Celebrate Independence Day by making a red, white, and blue wreath for decoration.
