National Grandparents Day

What is National Grandparents Day?

National Grandparents Day, celebrated the first Sunday after Labor Day, became a national holiday in 1978. This holiday honors grandparents and their important contributions to our families and communities. The day is all about showing love for our grandparents, giving them a chance to show their love for us, and helping kids understand the wisdom and support that older people can provide. It’s a special time to appreciate the important role grandparents play in our lives!

How Can I Celebrate?

One of the best ways to celebrate our grandparents is to spend time with them, and a great way to spend that time is reading aloud a favorite book! By sharing the joy of reading, grandparents may instill a lifelong love of books in their grandchildren. Many fond memories begin with a child climbing into a grandparent's lap with a beloved story book. Search our catalog for one of your favorite books from childhood that are sure to appeal to both young and old. Please leave a comment below to suggest titles you think others will enjoy.
