Due to the COVID-19 pandemic many jobs have been impacted, leading to people laid off and trying to search for a new job. SJPL Works has complied a list of resources that can help current job seekers.

Online Resources

  • Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) – This site provides information about specific employment sectors and career paths, including educational requirements, earnings, working conditions, and hiring outlook. The site created and maintained by the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • O*Net – The U.S. Department of Labor maintained website that features detailed information on over 900 occupations. Job seekers can find out which jobs fit their interests and skills, explore careers and labor market data that can help them make informed decisions regarding education, training, career choices, and work.
  • MyNextMove.org – This site is an interactive tool for job seekers and students to learn more about their career options. The site has tasks, skills, salary information, and more for over 900 different careers. Users can find careers through keyword search; by browsing industries that employ different types of workers; or through the O*NET Interest Profiler, a tool that offers personalized career suggestions based on a person's interests and level of work experience. Site is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor.
  • Career OneStop – An information home for the various American Job Centers that populate the United States. OneStop has a “toolkit” that assists job seekers with a variety of career and job related functions as well as tracks wage and salary information by occupation, location, and highest paying jobs. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor.
  • California Employment Development Department – The Employment Development Department (EDD) provides a comprehensive range of employment and training services in partnership with the state and local agencies and organizations.
  • California Labor Market Information – The Labor Market and Economic Analysis team provides data and analysis of California state's employment conditions, economy, job market and workforce.
  • National Employment Law Project – A dedicated to COVID-19 resources page for unemployed and front-line workers.

This workshop will provide job seekers the basics of how to effectively use Labor Market Information (LMI) as an essential tool to make informed, accurate decisions on how to get a job, improve their skills or enhance their careers.

How to Apply for California State Jobs

Every Other Thursday of the Month - 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM

Learn how to have a career and make a difference by working at the State of California. Working for California means much more than showing up for a job. As an employee, you will be able to work on programs that are vital to the economic growth of our community and State. The State of California provides a wide variety of services. From accounting to woodworking — there is a job for you!
