What is Read Across America?
Read Across America is an annual event observed during the first week of March. The program, started by the National Education Association in 1997, hopes to increase literacy and create a passion for reading in children nationwide.
How Does SJPL Celebrate?
To commemorate this event, the San José Public Library will host virtual and in-person activities throughout the city for the entire week.
- Join us as librarians share this year's title Ways to Welcome, during branch storytimes, followed by stay and play to inspire and connect young children to the book's characters.
- Library staff will share their favorite children's books through virtual read-alouds on our Early Education Services Facebook page on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
