Reading For the Future

Looking Back at 2024

As we hit mid-December, let us look forward to all the winter holidays and New Year's celebrations. The year 2024 is almost over and that means we are stepping into the last year of the first quarter of the 21st century! Undoubtedly, one of the extensive and profound changes the world has undergone is the development and introduction of new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). Artists and writers have contemplated the far-reaching, calculated, or unintended effects of “thinking machines” on society for decades. Books, graphic novels and other materials about AI and robots provide different perspectives, while exploring the technological and human frontiers opened by AI and possible paths to the future world that seemed incredible even a couple of years ago. Teens and children especially, are always excited about robots and can imagine a future world in which artificial creatures will be part of their daily lives.
