Spring into Poetry 2025: Explore and Write Your Own

Many times, we think poetry is for the artistic and sensitive, but it's for everyone.  We can all try our hand at writing poetry.  At San Jose Public Library, this month, we have programs to help you explore this literary form.  We have poet talks, children's programs, and writing parties.  Join us as we try our hand in writing.

Spring Into Poetry 2025

Whether you love the rhythm of rhyme, the power of free verse, or the elegance of a haiku, this is your chance to shine. April is National Poetry Month, and to celebrate, San José Public Library will be hosting our Annual Poetry Contest. Share your original, unpublished work and you could win a prize. Entries will be published via SJPL’s Short Edition platform.

We welcome poets of all ages and skill levels. No experience needed – just a passion for words! Submissions will be accepted from April 1-30.

Poetry Programming at the Library

At Almaden, we have a Haiku program for children and at West Valley, a Black-out and Shape Poetry Party.  At MLK Main Library, Aideed Medina will be reading her poetry.  Try something new.  Find out what a Black-out poem is.  Try writing one. Then submit your poem to our Spring into Poetry contest.  All ages qualify.
