Introducing Patricia Mena
Patricia Mena volunteers at the Hillview Branch Library. Patricia has been a shining example of adaptability during the pandemic. She has worked enthusiastically with library staff to move her ELL Conversation Club into a virtual space and has shown the same level of passion and commitment both in-person and online. If we had a superpower, it would be to clone her for other programs because she really is one of a kind!
A Chat with Patricia
As a child... I lived in Arizona and enjoyed playing outside and going swimming.
My first job... was as a babysitter for families in my neighborhood.
My fondest memory... is taking family roadtrips at least once a year.
I am most proud of... holding on to my family’s and cultural traditions.
My biggest challenge... is waking up in the morning on a work day. Haha
My role models... are my parents. I’ve always looked up to them and still do.
My communities... are amazing. I get the city and small town feel every day with lots of diversity.
Libraries are... awesome! They have a ton of useful resources for people of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
My favorite authors... are James Patterson, Patricia Cornwell, Lisa Jackson, and Michael Connelly.
If I had a super power, it would be... to stop time. I’m late a lot so it would be great if I can stop time while I go from place to place.
I volunteer... to help others. I feel I usually end up learning more than those I help. It’s a win-win!
If I weren't volunteering, I'd... feel unfulfilled. Giving back means a lot to me so I do what I can.
