Celebrate Election Season with Us!
During the week of October 20, 2024, we invite you and your children to Vote for Play by helping to select new educational toys for our libraries. Yes, kids get to vote too!
As our community engages in the excitement of election season, we're bringing the spirit of making choices to our youngest patrons. This is a great way to introduce your children to the importance of having a say in their community.
What's Happening?
We're expanding our Wee Play Initiative—a program dedicated to boosting children's learning through play—by adding exciting play materials to the children's areas at each of our 25 libraries.
Why Participate?
- Introduce Civic Engagement: Teach your children about voting and decision-making in a fun setting.
- Play is Vital: It boosts creativity, imagination, and life skills like problem-solving and communication.
- Your Vote Counts: Help us choose the best resources to support your child's growth.
How to Vote
Chat with your child about the toys they love and what they'd like to see in our libraries. During the week of October 20, 2024, all of our branch libraries will be hosting a special "Vote for Play" storytime, followed by a chance to cast your vote. Even if you can't attend the storytime, you can still participate!
During a "Vote for Play" Storytime
- Attend our "Vote for Play" storytime at any of our 25 library locations.
- Cast your vote after the storytime.
Can't make it? No problem!
- Fill out a paper ballot at any library location. You can request one at the branch information desk.
- Vote online (At this time, Voting has ended)

More About the Wee Play Initiative
The Wee Play Initiative is our program focused on enhancing young children's learning and development through play. By providing educational toys and materials, we aim to support social-emotional learning and prepare kids for school. Here's what we already offer:
- Wee Play Dates: Community play dates for children ages 0–5.
- Wee Love Art: Children ages 0–5 can learn about different artists and art styles that have made a major impact on creative thinking in our world.
- Wee Play & Learn Activity Boxes: Nine different activity boxes include books and educational toys to learn about concepts such as science, shapes, dinosaurs and more.
- Wee Read! Books to Go and Grow: Each themed bag contains picture books widely reflecting culture, race, gender, family makeup, or ability.
- Wee PlaySpaces and Stations: We have play areas at so many of our library locations.
Play is a vital component of a child's development, fostering creativity, imagination, and the growth of essential life skills such as problem-solving, communication, and emotional regulation.
Your input, alongside your children's, is crucial in helping us choose resources that best meet their needs. By participating in this process, you are playing a direct role in shaping the materials that will nurture your child's ability to connect with others, manage emotions, and succeed in a school environment.
Thank you for being an essential part of this important decision! We look forward to your participation and can't wait to see what new playful possibilities you and your children choose for our libraries!
