Collect Your Holds When it's Convenient for You!
Placing Locker Holds
- Place a Hold: Place a holds request online.
- Browse the library catalog for the materials you would like to request to place a hold.
- Select the "Place hold" button, and a dropdown menu will appear.
- Using the "Pickup at" option, select "Joyce Ellington Branch Lockers".
- Note: If you need to request accessibility accommodation, please call 408 808-3043 or email jemail@sjlibrary.org.
- Email Confirmation: You will receive an email notification once your items are ready for pickup at the lockers. Be sure to bring your library card.
- Locker Pickup: The Holds Pickup Lockers are located near the front Empire Street entrance of the Joyce Ellington Branch. For your convenience, the lockers are accessible 24/7.
Picking Up Your Locker Holds
- Scan Your Card:
- Scan your library card or input the card number using the touchscreen keypad.
- A list of items will appear* and a locker will open automatically.
- *If a red bar appears, and a locker does not open, you may have unresolved issues with your account.
- Collecting Items:
- Collect your items and close the locker door.
- Refer to My Account for item due dates.

Anyone with a valid San José Public Library card who is able to check out physical items can use the Holds Pickup Lockers.
To ensure that your request is placed within the lockers, make sure to select the the Holds Pickup Lockers option as your pickup location when you place your hold request online. The current Holds Pickup Lockers option available is, "Joyce Ellington Branch Lockers".

Yes. If the items are not picked up within 7 days of your Hold Pickup Notice, your items on hold will expire, and the items will become available for the next patron.
