Why is Talking to Babies so Important?

Almost 80% of a child’s brain is developed before their third birthday, making those first 36 months the most critical time to engage in brain building activities.

Talking with our children is one of the most effective ways to help boost their brain development. Most parents don’t know how much they’re talking with their children, but almost all parents can do it more!

Each week during the LENA Start program, you’ll use the LENA technology to accurately measure the amount of talk in your child’s environment. LENA technology records speech at home for a day after each class. You’ll get reports on how much you’re talking and find areas on where you could talk more. Each session, you’ll be able to see how much you’re growing with your child.

LENA technology only tracks words, conversations, and other data, not meanings of words. No one can listen to what was said. Sound recordings are deleted after processing.

Throughout the program, you’ll explore practical strategies to help you include more conversations with your child throughout your daily routines. LENA’s engaging curriculum will teach you brain-building talk skills through instructional videos, group sharing, and self-reflection exercises.
