Library’s Public Budget Statement

Library’s Public Budget Statement

We are pleased to report that, despite the incredible fiscal challenges caused by the pandemic, the City Council approved the Fiscal Year (FY) 2021-22 budget with clear support for residents through libraries and city services by:

  • Ensuring that our under-resourced communities have equitable access to essential library services.
  • Supporting the City’s Education and Digital Literacy Initiative.
  • Including a one-time restoration of hours at 13 branches serving lower resourced communities with the goal of restoring hours at all library locations in the following year.
  • Continuing to offer our Fine Free Program which does not assess late fines on juvenile materials.

Lastly, we secured funding to establish sustained staffing levels for the SJ Aspires program, SJ Learns, and other support for education and digital equity initiatives, which will continue to strengthen the academic advancement of our students through our Local Education Agencies, the Library, and City partners.
